Will Henry is a photographer and writer whose life-long pursuit of empty surf has led him down many twisted paths. Graduating from Stanford University in the 1980’s, he wandered the globe and ended up working for a winery in Margaret River, Australia. After many years in the wine business, he earned a master’s degree in photography and began to work as a freelance photographer and journalist. His frequent travel led him to Madeira, Portugal, where in 2001 he attempted to protect threatened surf spots by forming the non-profit organization Save the Waves Coalition, for which he served as executive director until 2007. While working for Save the Waves, he produced a full-length feature surf documentary entitled “Lost Jewel of the Atlantic”, about the fight to protect threatened surf spots in Madeira. In early 2007 he joined forces with fellow eco-warrior James Pribram, on a trip to Southern Chile. He is now producing a new surf film about the fight against pulp mills in Chile, due for release in 2009.
